Als es geschah, rief jemand „Unfall!“, und der Ruf ging von Kammer zu Kammer, weitergegeben von jedem, der da war, um ihn zu hören, denn die Höhle verschluckt jeden Laut, den niemand weiterträgt. Manche der Touristen, der Führer und der Höhlenforscher hörten ihn; die anderen, durch eine leere Kammer abgeschnitten, erfuhren erst später davon. Fünfzehn Menschen waren außer Vidor in der Höhle, einer pro Zeile und einer pro Spalte, und genau drei der vierzehn Kammern waren leer.
