Vidor, el jefe de la expedición, se adelantó a la Sala del Lago para comprobar las barcas – y lo encontraron allí, derribado junto al agua. Cuando ocurrió, alguien gritó «¡Accidente!», y el grito pasó de sala en sala, transmitido por quienquiera que estuviera allí para oírlo, pues la cueva se traga todo sonido que nadie lleva más allá. Algunos de los turistas, de los guías y de los espeleólogos lo oyeron; los demás, aislados por una sala vacía, se enteraron solo más tarde.
