Animalele sunt hrănite, căruțele sunt încărcate – iar când clopotul sună de cină, Vilma, fermiera, este găsită moartă în hambar, printre baloții de fân. Nouă persoane se aflau la fermă: trei din familia ei, trei argați și trei vizitatori. Unul dintre ei este ucigașul.
