De bijen waren onrustig in de hitte en niemand wilde zich rond een bijenkorf verdringen: op het moment van de moord was er naast elk van de drie bijenkorven precies één persoon. Tegen de avond werd Vinzenz, de oude imker die hier al vijftig jaar bijen hield, dood gevonden in de schuur, naast de kar vol honingramen. Er waren acht mensen op de boerderij: de vier imkers en vier bezoekers van de open dag. Een van hen is de moordenaar.
