Poco prima di cena Volkmar, il signore della residenza, fu trovato morto nella Sala dei trofei, tra le sue coppe e i suoi palchi di cervo, accanto al suo vecchio cane – che per tutta la sera non aveva emesso un suono. Nella residenza c’erano nove persone: tre della famiglia, due del personale e quattro ospiti della caccia. Uno di loro è l’assassino.
