Pouco antes do jantar, Volkmar, o senhor do pavilhão, foi encontrado morto na Sala dos troféus, entre as suas taças e as suas hastes de veado, ao lado do seu próprio cão velho – que não tinha feito um único ruído durante toda a noite.
