Estavam onze pessoas na quinta: os quatro anfitriões, quatro vizinhos e três viajantes que tinham parado por um dia. Ninguém admite ter estado perto do alambique de cobre – por isso quem esteve na Destilaria mentiu em todas as frases, e exatamente três pessoas estavam lá. Os mentirosos só escondem a aguardente: o assassino não esteve na Destilaria e disse a verdade.
