The Escape Room

Prague · Friday night · nobody ever beat the Vault · Difficulty: Officer 3 · 7×7

Friday night at an escape-room venue in Prague. Vilém, the owner, had built all three games himself – the Laboratory, the Library and the Vault – and liked to boast that no team had ever opened his safe within the hour. That evening a birthday group was playing the last round when Vilém was found dead. The clock was still running.

Rules

  1. Every row and every column holds exactly one person. As soon as you place someone, cross out their whole row and column.
  2. “Beside” = directly left, right, above or below, and in the same area. Squares with objects (the microscope, the alembic, the bookcases, the globe, the console, the TV, the counter, the locker, the potted plant, the safe and the chest) cannot be occupied; the chairs and the sofa can.
  3. The murderer was alone with the victim: nobody else was in that area.

Statements

  • Agáta (receptionist): The alembic was somewhere in her area.
  • Bohdan (game master): He was not in the Library. The potted plant was somewhere in his row.
  • Ctirad (bus driver, the birthday boy): He was the westernmost person in his area.
  • Dita (chemistry teacher): She was in the Laboratory. A bookcase was somewhere in her row.
  • Edita (librarian): She was beside the potted plant.
  • Florián (locksmith): The globe was somewhere in his area. He was not beside a bookcase.
  • Vilém (owner of the venue): The victim. He was found in the Vault, beside the safe – alone with the murderer.
