The Night Train
23:40 · Night express · Platform 3 · Difficulty: Inspector 7 · 12×12
The night express is waiting to depart from platform 3. Twenty minutes before departure the conductor, Victor, is found dead. Eleven people were on the train and in the station – one of them is the killer. Read each suspect’s statement and find everyone’s exact position on the crime scene. The killer was alone with the victim, in the same area.
Rules
- Everyone from Hugo to Victor was a member of staff; everyone else was a passenger. Only staff could be in the Luggage Car and the Ticket Office.
- Every area of the station building had at least one person in it.
- Every row and every column holds exactly one person. As soon as you place someone, cross out their whole row and column.
- “Beside” = directly left, right, above or below, and in the same area.
- Directions refer to rows and columns, not to the same column: “he was north of” = in a row further up; “exactly one row north of him there was someone” = the occupant of the row directly above, in any column. “Standing” = not in a chair and not on a bed.
