The Taco Truck
A plaza in Oaxaca · Friday night in May · the last taco of the night · Difficulty: Rookie 2 · 6×6
Oaxaca, a warm Friday night in May. The little taco truck on the plaza had just sold its last tacos al pastor, the grill was cooling, and the last customers were finishing their horchatas under the paper flags. Then a scream rang out: Virgilio, the mezcal seller who owed everybody money, was found dead. The band never played its last song.
Rules
- Every row and every column holds exactly one person. As soon as you place someone, cross out their whole row and column.
- “Beside” = directly left, right, above or below, and in the same area. Squares with objects (the grill, the counter, the elote cart, the cooler, the tables, the fountain and the trees) cannot be occupied; the stools and the benches can.
- The murderer was alone with the victim: nobody else was in that area.
Statements
- Alejandra (the taquera who owns the truck): She was beside the cooler.
- Bartolo (her nephew, who takes the orders): He was in the Picnic Area.
- Citlali (a primary-school teacher): She was not beside the elote cart. She was not beside the fountain.
- Dorotea (the trumpeter of the plaza's brass band): She was in the first column.
- Efraín (a taxi driver): He was sitting on a stool.
- Virgilio (a mezcal seller): The victim. He was found on the Plaza, beside a tree – alone with the murderer.
